Fatally shot and stabbed brothers John and Christopher Rajca, 19 and 17, Jan. 27, 1979, during a drug deal south of Naperville. 2) George Delvecchio, 42. Slashed the throat of 6-year-old Tony Canzoneri during a Northwest Side home invasion Dec. 22, 1977. 3) James Free Jr., 36. Fatally shot Bonnie Serpico, 34, of Glen Ellyn, after raping her and another woman April 24, 1978, in a Glen Ellyn factory. 4) Kenneth Allen, 48. Shot and killed Chicago police officers William Bosak, 33, and Roger Van Schaik, 31, March 3, 1979, in retaliation for police confiscating weapons from his home three months earlier. 5) Hernando Williams, 35. Raped and murdered Linda Goldstone, a natural childbirth instructor at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Williams abducted Goldstone March 30, 1978, from near the hospital and drove around for 36 hours with her in his trunk before shooting her to death. 6) John Wayne Gacy, 47. Convicted of 33 counts of murder after authorities discovered 29 bodies of young men and boys buried in the crawl space of his Norwood Park Township home in 1978. Authorities also found four other bodies in the Des Plaines River, where Gacy said he had thrown them. 7 and 8) Juan Caballero, 29, and Luis Ruiz, 30. Stabbed and slashed to death Michael Salcido, 17; Arthur Salcido, 19; and Frank Mussa, 16, Feb. 24, 1979, in a North Side alley following a dispute over gang affiliations. 9) Andre Jones, 34. Killed East St. Louis cleaning store owner Samuel Nersesian and mail carrier Debra Brown in an April 30, 1979, shooting spree. 10) Durlynn Eddmonds, 38. Smothered 9-year-old Richard Miller while raping him Oct. 24, 1977, in a South Side apartment. 11) Charles Silagy, 40. Choked, stabbed and stomped to death his girlfriend, Cheryl Block, 32, and her sister, Anne Waters, 29, Feb. 14, 1980, near Danville, after quarreling with Block for attending a male strip show. 12) Walter Stewart, 35. Fatally shot Danilo Rodica, 39, and Thomas Pavlopoulous, 27, Feb. 10, 1980, while robbing a Berwyn jewelry store. 13) Dennis Emerson, 38. Stabbed two people Aug. 13, 1979, inside a South Side lounge during a robbery, then set fire to the building, killing one of the stabbing victims, Delinda Byrd, 22. 14) Girvies Davis, 32. Used a hammer to fatally bludgeon Arfrazia Hodges, 38, Dec. 18, 1980, during a home invasion and robbery in Kankakee. 21 and 22) Harold Bean, 51, and Robert Byron, 43. Convicted of the Feb. 17, 1981, murder-for-hire of Dorothy Polulach, 81, a Southwest Side widow. Bean, disguised as a priest, entered Polulach`s home, handcuffed her and shot her. 23) Tafford Holman, 41. Fatally shot Anthony Townsend, 17, during a Feb. 21, 1980, home invasion in Joliet. 24) Henry Brisbon, 34. The ``I-57`` killer sentenced to 1,000 to 3,000 years for the 1973 murders of a Chicago couple, Brisbon received the death sentence for fatally stabbing Richard ``Hippie`` Morgan, 31, a fellow inmate at Stateville prison Oct. 19, 1978. 25) Charles Albanese, 53. Fatally poisoned his mother-in-law, Marion Mueller, 69; his wife`s grandmother, Mary Lambert, 89; and his father, Michael, 69; by lacing their food with arsenic in 1980 and 1981 in McHenry and Lake Counties. Albanese wanted to inherit his relatives` money and take over the family business. 26) William Jones, 35. Stabbed Margaret Dare to death during a Jan. 25, 1982, burglary of the elderly woman`s rural Jefferson County home. 27) Gregory Madej, 31. Raped and stabbed to death Barbara Doyle, 38, after meeting her Aug. 22, 1982, at a North Side tavern. 28) Willie Thompkins, 40. On Dec. 22, 1980, shot Gerald Holton, 31, and Arthur Sheppard, 39, two Markham drug dealers who had been infringing on the territory of a drug-selling gang with which Thompkins was affiliated. 29) Raymond Stewart, 38. Fatally shot Rockford grocer William Fredd, 54, and stockboy Albert Pearson, 20, Jan. 27, 1981. The murders were the first of six Stewart committed within a week in Rockford and Beloit, Wis., during robberies. In 1971, Fredd had testified against Stewart in an armed-robbery case. 30) Edgar Hope, 31. Murdered Chicago police rookie James Doyle, 34, Feb. 5, 1982, on a South Side bus as Doyle and his partner tried to arrest Hope for suspicion of burglary. Police later found a gun in Hope`s apartment that they used to convict him for the Jan. 11, 1982, slaying of Lloyd Wyckliffe, 35, a guard at a South Side McDonald`s. 31) Johnny Neal Jr., 44. Used a pipe to fatally beat Lillian Waid, 63, a Waukegan widow, in an Aug. 19, 1982, robbery. 32) Perry Olinger, 42. Stabbed and shot James Adams, 31; Gordon Stevens, 36; and Debra Bushman, 25, May 25, 1982, during robberies in Sterling and Rock Falls. 33) Samuel Morgan, 43. Shot and killed acquaintances Kenneth Merkson, 24, and William Motley, 28, Jan. 28, 1982, after consuming large amounts of drugs in a North Side apartment. 34) Domingo Perez, 30. Stabbed fellow Stateville prison inmate Ronald Kleis, 21, to death April 16, 1981, during a gang-related fight. 35) Ulece Montgomery, 33. Raped and strangled his landlord, Pearl Briggs, 72, and her sister, Betty Tyson, 68, April 25, 1981, in Robbins. 36) Anthony Guest, 44. A Missouri prison escapee serving a life sentence for a murder, Guest was caught Feb. 5, 1982, shoplifting a toothbrush and toothpaste from a West Side grocery store. After being led to the manager`s office, he opened fire, killing John Geever, 23, a store employee. 37) John Whitehead, 40. Kidnapped and strangled Vickie Wrobel, 5, a girl from his Joliet neighborhood Aug. 9, 1982. 38) Paul Erickson, 33. Raped and stabbed Elizabeth Launer, 15, of Arlington Heights July 31, 1982, after she refused to have sex with him following a party. 39) Anthony Porter, 32. Shot and killed Jerry Hilliard, 18, and his fiance, Marilyn Green, 19, Aug. 15, 1982, during a robbery at Washington Park on the South Side. 40) Charles Walker, 50. Looking for beer money, Walker robbed and shot Kevin Paule, 21, and his fiance, Sharon Winker, 25, of Mascoutah, while the couple fished in a St. Clair County creek June 18, 1983. 41) Patrick Wright, 47. Broke into a Mattoon apartment June 7, 1983, and slashed to death Carol Specht, 44. Wright, diagnosed later as suffering from a psychosexual disorder, testified that he broke in searching for women`s shoes. 42) Willie Enoch, 36. Raped and murdered Armanda Kay Burns, 25, April 22, 1983, in her Peoria apartment. 43) Donald Lego, 58. Stabbed and beat to death Mary Mae Johnson, an 82- year-old Joliet widow, during a burglary Aug 25, 1983. 44) Anthony Hall, 31. While in Pontiac state prison for robbery, he fatally stabbed prison cook Frieda King, 50, Feb. 8, 1983. 45) William Young, 40. While in Stateville prison for murder, he strangled and stabbed fellow inmate Brian Jackson March 31, 1983, in a gang dispute. 46) Floyd Richardson, 35. Shot grocer George Vrabel to death April 1, 1980, during a robbery on the South Side. 47) Milton Johnson, 40. Fatally stabbed Marilyn Baers, 45; Barbara Dunbar, 38; Anna Ryan, 75; and Pamela Ryan, 29, in a ceramics shop near Joliet Aug. 20, 1983. Johnson already was on Death Row for the July 17, 1983, kidnap and murder of Anthony Hackett, 18, and the rape of Hackett`s fiance. He ambushed the teens on Interstate Highway 55 after their car became disabled. 48) Hector Sanchez, 44. Kidnapped Michelle Thompson, 21, outside a Gurnee bar, then raped and strangled her Feb. 4, 1984. 49) Dino Titone, 30. Fatally shot Tullio Infelice, 39, and Aldo Fratto, 26, Dec. 12, 1982, in a Du Page County forest preserve in a dispute over two pounds of cocaine. 50) Keith Shum, 30. Shot and killed Gwendolyn Whipple, 21, who was nine months` pregnant, after breaking into her South Side apartment and raping her July 6, 1982. Shum also was the first Illinois defendant convicted under a 1981 law that made it a crime to kill a fetus. 51) Jerry Mahaffey, 33. Clubbed to death Jo Ellen Pueschel, 30, and her husband, Dean, 26, during a robbery Aug. 29, 1983, in the couple`s Rogers Park home. 52) Ronald Barrow, 31. Shot Joseph O`Berto, 86, to death during a robbery Feb. 19, 1984, in La Salle County. 53 and 54) Leroy Orange, 39, and his half-brother, Leonard Kidd, 31. Fatally stabbed Orange`s former girlfriend, Renee Coleman, 27; her son, Anthony, 10; Michelle Jointers, 30; and Ricardo Pedro, 25; during a drug- induced frenzy Jan. 12, 1984, in a South Side apartment. While in custody, Kidd was sentenced to death a second time after confessing to setting a fire Oct. 28, 1980, at a South Side apartment building in which 10 children, ages 7 months to 17 years, were killed. 55) James Foster, 37. Upset because he thought his girlfriend, Jacqueline Simmons, of Aurora, was ``messing around`` with other men, he beat her to death with a baseball bat Jan. 9, 1985. 56) Henry Griffin, 42. Convicted of the contract murder of Carl Gibson, 38, on the Chicago Skyway June 21, 1984. A drug dealer who believed Gibson was a police informant paid Griffin $2,500 in cash and cocaine to carry out the execution. 57) Dewayne Britz, 28. Convicted in the ``Good Samaritan`` slaying of Mimi Covert, 30, of Petersburg, Jan. 16, 1985. Britz raped and strangled Covert after she picked him up on a highway north of Springfield where a pickup truck Britz had stolen broke down. 58) Johnnie Evans, 39. Raped and fatally stabbed Adrian Allen, 16, Jan. 22, 1983, in an elevator of a South Side Chicago Housing Authority building. 59) Darryl Simms, 29. Raped, stabbed and strangled neighbor Lillian LaCrosse, 25, of Addison, April 18, 1985. 60) Manuel Salazar, 24. Shot and killed Joliet police officer Martin Murrin, 32, Sept. 12, 1984, as Murrin tried to arrest him for a shooting. 61 and 62) Verneal Jimerson, 38, and Dennis Williams, 33. Kidnapped and murdered Larry Lionberg, 29, and his fiance, Carol Schmal, 24, May 11, 1978, in Ford Heights. 63) Bennie Williams, 26. Shot Tony Long, 18, to death May 29, 1983, on the South Side while stealing Long`s radio. 64) James Ashford, 36. Shot and killed Bernard Bowen, 26; Lonnie Davis, 27; Johnetta Eady, 33; and Helen Annette Singleton, 19; in a drug-related robbery June 12, 1985, in Springfield. 65) Jimmie Tye, 33. Fatally belt-whipped his 3 1/2-year-old daughter, Jasmine James, Oct. 24, 1984, on the South Side after she refused to go to sleep. 66) Larry Scott, 35. Raped and strangled Moody Bible Institute student Kristen Kent, 24, Aug. 4, 1984, on the North Side. 67) Robert Turner, 31. Fatally stabbed Bridget Drobney, 16, of Downers Grove, in a Macoupin County cornfield July 14, 1985. As Drobney was driving to a friend`s wedding reception, Turner and two other young men used a flashing red light resembling that of a police car to pull Drobney`s car to the side of the road. 68) Thomas Odle, 23. Stabbed his father, mother, two brothers and a sister to death Nov. 8, 1985, in Mt. Vernon. Odle told police that he was tired of his parents ``comin` down on my case`` about alcohol and drug abuse. 69) Derrick House, 25. Fatally stabbed and shot Raynard Rule, 19, an alleged drug dealer whom House believed had cheated him, along with Rule`s sister, Lauren, 16; Yvonne Brooks, 18; her sister, Kim Brooks, 24, Jan. 12, 1985, on the West Side. 70) Mario Flores, 25. A former high school diving champion, he murdered Gilbert Perez, 21, Jan. 1, 1984, on the North Side in a gang dispute. 71) Stanley BoClair, 32. Fatally stabbed fellow Pontiac inmate Thomas Riley Oct. 7, 1984, in a gang dispute. 72) Andrew Johnson, 26. Murdered William Feuling, 23, Jan. 25, 1985, in a robbery of Feuling`s West Side home. 73) Steven Smith, 42. Twice convicted of murder and twice released from prison, he fatally shot Virdeen Willis Jr., 45, an assistant warden at Pontiac state prison, June 30, 1985, outside a South Side bar. Smith, a gang member, had recognized Smith, who had subdued his gang`s leader in a 1970s scuffle at the Joliet state prison. 74) Edward Spreitzer, 29. Kidnapped, murdered and mutilated Linda Sutton, 26, of the West Side, on May 23, 1981. Sutton was the first of as many as 17 Chicago area women believed abducted, killed and mutilated in 1981 and 1982 by a gang of young men that included Spreitzer. 75) Andrew Kokoraleis, 27. A member of the same gang, he was convicted for the kidnapping, murder and mutilation of Lorraine Borowski, 21, of Elmhurst, May 15, 1982. 76) Clarence Hayes, 38. During a robbery, he shot and killed Ronald Nelson, 50, an Iowa history professor visiting his son on the South Side March 17, 1985. 77 and 78) Earl Hawkins, 35, and Nathson Fields, 36. El Rukn street gang members, they shot and killed Talmon Hickman and Jerome Smith, both 31 and members of a rival gang, April 28, 1984, on the South Side. 79) James Seuffer, 33. Upset that a bartender at a North Side tavern had accused him of stealing marijuana, he shot and killed tavern manager James Cobb, 59, and bar patron Judy Webster, 45, on Oct. 2, 1984. 80) Larry Eyler, 37. Killed and dismembered Daniel Bridges, 15, and discarded his body parts in a North Side dumpster Aug. 24, 1984. Eyler, suspected of killing more than 20 young men in Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin and Kentucky between 1982 and 1984, had been charged a year earlier with the murder of a 28-year-old man in Lake County. But Eyler was released by a judge who ruled police illegally obtained evidence in that case. 81) John Phillips, 37. Strangled Joan Wetherall, 30, a Carbondale waitress, Nov. 11, 1981. 82) William Franklin, 51. Fatally shot Elgin Evans, 25, of Chicago Heights on Feb. 6, 1980, in revenge for a robbery. 83) Alton Coleman, 34. Kidnapped and murdered Vernita Wheat, 9, May 29, 1984, in Waukegan. Wheat`s murder began a seven-week killing spree in which Coleman and an accomplice murdered eight women and girls in Illinois, Ohio and Indiana. 84) Stanley Howard, 27. Fatally shot Oliver Ridgell, 42, in his car May 20, 1984, on the South Side after Ridgell refused to light Howard`s cigarette. 85) Paul West, 30. Beat and burned Shardae Harris, the 3-month-old daughter of his girlfriend, Jan. 29, 1986, on the West Side because the baby wouldn`t stop crying. 86) Demetrius Henderson, 22. Raped and stabbed to death Kimberly Boyd, 15, following a South Side party July 12, 1986. Henderson stabbed Boyd 37 times and ran over her three times in a car. 87) Gordon Steidl, 39. Stabbed and mutilated newlyweds Dyke and Karen Rhoads July 6, 1986, in Paris, Ill. 88) Willie Pugh, 25. Fatally shot Bryan Douglas, 19, a South Chicago Heights gas station attendant, during a robbery Dec. 16, 1986. 89) Walter Thomas, 35. Stabbed Darlene Dudeck, 38, to death Nov. 26, 1986, in Aurora during a burglary. 90) John Pecoraro, 39. Shot Jimmy Ray Christian, 29, to death Dec. 6, 1982, on the North Side, because he had fallen in love with Christian`s wife, who later spurned him. The murder went unsolved until Aug. 6, 1986, when Pecoraro flagged down a Chicago police car and said, ``I want to turn myself in for a murder.`` 91) Jerry Ward, 34. Shot Bruce Heard, 33, to death and beat Heard`s girlfriend, Pamela Williams, 25, to death with a car jack during a Feb. 15, 1986, robbery on the West Side. 92) Tyrone Strickland, 25. Fatally shot Wheeling police officer Kenneth Dawson, 41, during a struggle Nov. 5, 1985. Dawson had responded to a call of two men lurking near a Wheeling apartment complex. 93) Danny Edwards, 33. Abducted and killed Kankakee businessman Stephen Small, 40, by burying him alive Sept. 2, 1987. Edwards had hoped to extort ransom from Small`s family. 94) William Leger, 43. Murdered his ex-wife, Susan Newman, 37, of Eldorado, and his estranged wife, Mary Sue Leger, 39, of Ridgway, Sept. 4, 1987. 95) Anthony Enis, 24. Raped and murdered Waukegan nurse Merlinda Entrata, 33, Aug. 10, 1977, to prevent her from testifying that he had raped her four months earlier. 96) Lawrence Jackson, 27. Stabbed four people to death to eliminate witnesses to a Sept. 24, 1986, break-in at a West Side Chicago Housing Authority apartment. Killed were: Shirley Martin, 23; Vernita Winder, 22; Dana Winder, 4; and Mark Brown, 25. 97) Derrick Morgan, 34. Fatally shot friend David Smith, 29, Dec. 17, 1985, on the South Side in exchange for $4,000 from a drug dealer. 98) Robert St. Pierre, 27. Fatally bludgeoned Benjamin Gibons, 62, and his wife, Sybil, 60, with a hammer July 29, 1982, in their Skokie home. Prosecutors alleged that the murder was in retaliation for the couple reporting to police that one of St. Pierre`s friends had broken a window at their home. 99) Richard Nitz, 39. Fatally shot and decapitated Michael David Miley, 23, of Murphysboro, April 6, 1988. Prosecutors attributed the killing of Miley, who was gay, to Nitz`s obsessive hatred of homosexuals. 100) Jimmy Pitsonbarger, 27. Fatally shot Claude and Alta Brown, both 62, Aug. 26, 1987, at their home near Peoria. 101) Harry Gosier, 29. Former University of Illinois football player, fatally shot his estranged wife`s mother and sister, Mae and Soynda Holcrombe, 42 and 26, Feb. 22, 1988, in Champaign. 102) John Pasch, 61. Fatally shot his landlord, Leslie Shearer, 45, and Chicago police officer Richard Clark, 48, April 3, 1986, on the North Side after a dispute over rent. 103) David Smith, 27. Raped and fatally stabbed Lisa Ferguson, 17, March 17, 1987, as she was baby-sitting on the Southwest Side. 104) Tuhran Lear, 31. Shot gas station attendant Gregory McAnarney, 31, to death Sept. 3, 1988, during a robbery in Farmersville. 105) Frank Bounds, 38. Raped and strangled Carolyn Lewis, 34, on Dec. 9, 1986, on the South Side. 106 and 107) Ike Easley, 28, and Roosevelt Lucas, 35. While inmates at Pontiac state prison, they fatally beat and stabbed prison Supt. Robert Taylor, 44, Sept. 3, 1987, in retaliation for the death of another prisoner who swallowed a bag of cocaine during a struggle with guards searching his cell. 108) Joseph Burrows, 36. Shot and killed William Dulin, 88, a Sheldon farmer, Nov. 6, 1988, after Dulin refused to sign a check to provide money for a drug deal. 109) Ronald Jones, 40. Fatally stabbed Debra Smith, 32, March 10, 1985, on the South Side. 110) Eddie Williams, 32. Fatally shot Valerie McDonald, 37, outside her North Side apartment June 23, 1987, in exchange for $400 from the girlfriend of McDonald`s husband. 111) Robert Melock, 24. Raped, beat, slashed and strangled his 72-year- old grandmother, Augustine Melock, Jan. 15, 1989, in her Waukegan home. 112) Aaron Patterson, 26. Fatally stabbed Vincent Sanchez, 73, and his wife, Rafaela, 62, after breaking into their South Side home April 19, 1986. 113) Howard Wiley, 44. Fatally shot his former girlfriend, Donna Rucks, 42; her daughter, Carla Williams, 23; and Rucks` sister, Adrienne Parham, 45; Dec. 2, 1985, on the South Side. 114) Irving Ramey, 24. Stabbed Derrick Wilkinson, 22, to death in a Hazel Crest home invasion Aug. 1, 1986. 115) James Tenner, 46. In a jealous rage, he shot and killed Donna Sauls, 49, and Alvin Smith, 41, Sept. 2, 1987, in a South Chicago Heights garage. Tenner also tried to kill Sauls` husband, because he believed that Smith was dating his girlfriend and that the Saulses were aiding the relationship. 116) Anthony Mitchell, 20. Fatally stabbed David and Dawn Leineke, brother and sister ages 18 and 13, July 4, 1989, near Belleville. Mitchell, described as ``borderline retarded,`` had burst into the Leineke home searching for an acquaintance he thought had stolen a radio and a video game. 117) Cecil Sutherland, 32. Kidnapped, sexually assaulted and slashed the throat of Amy Schulz, 10, of Kell, July 1, 1987. 118) Mark Johnson, 32. Stabbed Willie Robinson, 44, Nov. 26, 1985, during a sexual assault on Robinson`s niece. While on Death Row for that killing, he was sentenced to death again after confessing to the May 1984 stabbing and mutilation of Cherry Wilson, 36, in her West Side home. 119) Victor Ganus, 28. While serving a life term for murder, he murdered fellow Menard inmate Lucas Gonzales, 37, Nov. 6, 1988, in a gang dispute. 120) William Peeples, 26. Stabbed neighbor Dawn Dudovick, 24, May 18, 1988, in her Schaumburg apartment. Peeples had come to Dudovick`s door asking to borrow a cup of sugar. 121) Renaldo Hudson, 26. Posing as a repairman, he tortured and fatally stabbed retired carpenter Folke Petersen, 72, in his South Side apartment June 7, 1983. 122) Rolando Cruz, 27. Raped and murdered Jeanine Nicarico, 10, of Naperville Feb. 25, 1983, after abducting her from her Naperville home. 123) Lloyd Hampton, 36. A drifter from Texas, he smothered and stabbed Roy Pendleton, 68, of Troy, Feb. 8, 1990, after appearing at Pendleton`s apartment and asking to use the bathroom. 124) Andrew Maxwell, 23. Shot and killed cabdriver Adrian Bracy, 28, during a robbery Oct. 26, 1986, on the South Side. 125) Robert Todd, 28.
